I never realised aberdeen had so many beautiful historic buildings certainly rivaling edinburgh but in different ways . this is a museum now. dating from 1545, it is the oldest surviving townhouse in aberdeen . the city provost bought the house in 1669 and was responsible for many renovations including the remarkable plaster ceilings. point of interest, the house was used to billet hanoverian troops in 1746 and cumberland himself had a short stay on his way to the battle of culloden. the small gardens are very picturesque.
This is a great free place to visit. it's great for all the family but the stairs are quite narrow and steep in places and some of the doorways are quite low. it's very informative and definitely worth a visit. 5*
Lovely old building. contains display about famous people with a connection with aberdeen. interesting way to spend an hour & no entry fee
Coolest museum ive ever been to. really beautiful building. great place to bring kids with lots of interactive screens and games. its free! must visit if coming to aberdeen city. opens at 10 am.
My children and their friends - all aged 8-12 enjoyed this very much because there are so many interactive elements and screens. the history of aberdeen is displayed mainly with a focus on interesting and influential people in science, arts and humanities. there is also a painted gallery.
