I stayed here recently and was extremely impressed with everything. the rooms were immaculate and offered everything i could’ve asked for. the staff i dealt with were excellent, they were very knowledgable and catered to every need that i had when visiting.
Honestly the worst experience i have had at a premier inn. the woman on reception was a little rude, me and my partner have visited several premier inn hotels and have never been asked for id so when the receptionist at the barnsley premier inn requested it we were very confused. i showed her my id and explained that it had never happened to us before, after we had been given our key i apologised for the confusion and she didn't even respond to me, ignored me entirely. our experience at the restaurant was no better, we stood at the sign that stated "please wait to be seated" and it took almost 10 minutes for a member of staff to actually come and seat us, this was after she seated someone who had arrived after us. when we ordered food and drink we had to change what we wanted 3 times as the staff told us after the fact that they didn't have any full fat cola, fish or lemonade and it felt like it took forever for our food to actually arrive at the table (again people who arrived well after us got their food before us) as for the location, it's barnsley so it is awful to begin with, very annoying to get to by foot from the train station with all the uphill bits.
Arrived to park at hotel and it has a massive car park attached which is very handy. the machine didn't work for a few people so paid via the paybyphone app. lift to the hotel and it's just opposite. rooms were decent, with spare pillows as they were needed. i didn't notice the air conditioning at first as it is placed around the corner from the door but it comes in very handy as the room gets warm overnight in early summer. we had issues with the machine check in and key card didn't register. we asked the check in attendant to sort it and she did however then the card that did originally work then didn't work at the end of the night. so it's just the little things as on the whole it was great. there's also a pub attached but it's not open late. breakfast is expensive really as you can walk down to the brilliant market in the morning at get a breakfast for half the price!
My colleague and i were travelling for work and we arrived after 11pm so obviously the bar was closed. jess, on reception, who checked us in couldn't do enough for us and was so kind and helpful. she got us iced water from the bar and gave us packets of biscuits. she really went the extra mile. rooms were spotless and comfortable. breakfast was lovely and waiting staff helpful. all in all a really pleasant stay with excellent customer service better than most 5* hotels. recommended.
