John is an excellent driving instructor. Very knowledgeable and thorough, while always being friendly and patient. Passed first time 👍🏻

When I first began driving, it was with a different instructor, and we parted ways due to their frequent, short-notice cancellations and lack of communication. I took a significant break between ending lessons with them and finding a new instructor, and thus was nervous when I began taking lessons with John at A New Start Driving School. Reader, there was no need to fear. John is, without a doubt, one of the best instructors in Belfast. He responded to my initial queries very quickly, and found me a slot as soon as he could. Our first lesson put my mind instantly at ease, and thanks to his guidance, driving soon became something fun and enjoyable instead of anxiety-inducing and worrisome. John is a very calm and reassuring instructor, and gave me honest and timely feedback on where I was going wrong and where I was going right, and how test-ready I was - not to mention he knows the test routes and major/minor faults like the back of his hand. Our lesson slot remained largely the same each week, but were easily changed if needed, and with plenty of notice in advance. Thanks to John, I passed my driving test first time with very minimal nerves, and had great craic during each and every lesson. I cannot recommend him and A New Start highly enough. John is an excellent driving instructor, explaining things thoroughly and with great patience. I always appreciated the time he took to point out things I had done particularly well, which really helped me build my confidence throughout the lessons. He is also very easy to get on with and I greatly enjoyed my time learning to drive with him. Having passed my test on my first attempt, I would highly recommend John as an instructor. I’ve just passed my test at the second attempt and I couldn’t have done it without John’s help. His calm, clear and constructive instructions were able to put me at ease. From having a bad experience with my last driving instructor, John was a breathe of fresh air. I always enjoyed going out with John which is a testament to his teaching ability. John has been a fantastic driving instructor, at all times patient, calm and clear – much needed for an incredibly nervous learner such as myself. I came to John a bit older than most learner drivers and found him incredibly patient and encouraging. Also want to thank John for being so flexible and understanding with my work schedule.
