A truly humbling place with living history. i didn't know prior to visiting belfast that the communities are still divided. the peace wall is a reminder of the troubles as well as parallel conflicts in the world. visited while on the "conflicting stories" walking tour.
We did a black cab tour with a very nice older gentleman. it was a very historically educating tour. it was a very sad and dark time in dublin's past and not that long ago.
A very good day in belfast including a visit to the titanic experience followed by a taxi tour of the city courtesy of patrick cambell taxis. the tour showed us how each community live in today's times but also facts about the past troubles and the murals on some of the buildings and also the solidarity wall and the international peace wall.
If you are from the states then you might be familiar with the troubles and if so you can visit here on your own. we drove over here and parked the car to sign the wall with a big fat marker that a taxi driver let us use. driving through the open gates was a surreal moment as back home i have never seen anything like it. one can only imagine what it was like during the height of the conflict and we can hope one day the wall comes down for good.
