Beautiful park with such variety of spaces and places to walk
Feels like roaming around deep jungle..amazing place for morning walk.
A nice park with an adequate parking space. not crowded unlike other nearby parks.
Probably the best park in south birmingham. the park is the grounds of a former country house, that was owned by the chamberlin family, and left to the city of birmingham. the meandering paths enable you to wander around the park for longer than you might imagine, without having to tread the same bits twice. they lead through various landscaped sections, and it can be nice to imagine how guests of the once wealthy owners might have felt as they were led around the house's parkland. whilst i wouldn't describe the park as "hilly", there are definite changes in elevation, which can lead to some muddy areas in the winter, though work in recent years has improved the drainage, so the main paths stay mostly clear.
We walked here from cannon hill park (see review) which took about 15mins. this park is more of a parkland, there aren't flower beds, manicured areas, any children's playground or boating lake. the park is left to let nature take its course so there are nettles/dandelions/brambles in all areas but not on the paths. the paths are accessible, wide, tidy, no litter or dog mess, bins and a few benches. all the lawned areas have been left to grow long (no mow may?) but people were still enjoying a picnic. we really enjoyed this park, a complete contrast to cannon hill, much quieter and there is a car park. the birdsong was more prominent here too. more woodland areas. we wandered out to the station pub in kings heath before catching the 35 bus back into the city centre. the 50 bus also departs from here about every 10mins! see pics.
