When i landed on the steps of the provi in early january 2022 i was below rock bottom. i wanted my life to be over as i couldn't carry on as i was. i wanted to die. i was suicidal and had tried unsuccessfully to take my own life the month before. my family and i had tried everything to stop my drinking. i was under a local drug and alcohol unit, a great gp, a private counsellor. but no one could really help me. from day one at the provi the staff made me feel safe and cared for. the staff really were fantastic. i was amazed to learn that they were all recovered addicts. who better to know and understand my addiction to alcohol than someone who had been therel!! i went with the intention of spending just 28 days there. my first week i was in the detox house. i started to learn so much about myself and my illness. after a couple of weeks i knew that i needed longer. and in total i stayed 12 weeks. which i needed. the provi is a 12 step program that i knew nothing about. but thanks to the tools they gave me i follow a 12 step program every day and because of that i am still alive and sober today. living my best life. i will be eternally grateful to everyone at the provi for the love, help and support they gave me. the counsellors are miracle workers. and they saved my life.
I entered the providence project a very broken person. the first step was to help me with my physical addition to alcohol and drugs which was handled very professionally and then in my opinion came the harder part step two teaching me how to stay clean and sober. everyone working at the providence had experience with drugs and alcohol abuse which made opening up to them much easier for me. they were kind but firm this is not a holiday camp you have to work for your own recovery. all i can say is the providence project saved my life i have been over a year sober now still working the program of aa they introduced me to. my friends and family are so grateful to them as am i. this is an amazing place i can’t recommend it enough.
I originally went to the provi for a 10 day treatment programme for my alcohol addiction. after that time i didn't have the confidence that would see me stay off the drink, in the end i stayed 10 weeks. almost 8 years i am still "dry". i regularly go out to social occasions where alcohol is available but have had no reason to feel tempted. never say never but it worked for me thanks to all at the provi especially darryl.
I started my journey of recovery in providence project in september 2020 in the middle of covid. even through a world wide pandemic they opened their doors to me with no judgement. i needed to be taken out of society, and provy provided the safe space i needed to establish myself and what i really needed. i have made life long friends and memories through them and will be forever grateful to each and every person whether it be councillor or client. 🙌🙌🙌
This rehab centre is incredible, the counsellors are experts in their field as indeed the support workers are. i arrived at the provi a complete wreck but with the support and training i have come out a better human being. as i’m now home and attending meetings and reading the big blue book everything they taught us makes sense. my time in the provi will always be in my memory, i met some amazing human beings both peers and staff and have made some life long friendships. thank you provi i have a very happy wife but know i’m just starting my journey.
