Well worth a visit, very interesting, bigger than expected and dog friendly 😃. it was advertised as open on the saturday on facebook, 10am till 4pm. so check dates so you don't get disappointed.
St. john's house is a lovely place, managed by a vibrant community of volunteers. the place and the history of its rescue deserve more recognition. it's a great experience for family: my son loved practising "brass rubbing" to reproduce a welsh dragon, that is now gleefully on display in his bedroom =). nearby are also worth a visit the st illtyd's church and the ruin of newcastle castle (y castell newydd), both at ~3 minutes walking distance from st. john's house.
Lovely 18th century building, with stone plaques depicting christograms, along with witches marks on the firplace in the great chamber, beautiful presented and well worth a visited. need to check opening times as this house is not open everyday. parking is available but limited also access is via the front door with large stone step.
Great to see how people are trying to put it back to the original state, it is the oldest habitable residential building in bridgend town circ. 16th century 2019, didn't go in, but will definitely be back in the future to see how far they have got. if you want to visit inside, i would recommend visiting their web site for timing, as it's not always open. nice castle ruins just up the road.
The trust are doing an admirable job protecting this historic town house for the benefit of the community. reputed to be the oldest habitable building in bridgend you can get a real feel for what it would have been like. currently two open days a month and the volunteers are doing a great job showing people around.
