Although it is a ruin, it is certainly worth visiting. it is free to visit. it dates from the 12th century and stands next to what was. (and still is a crossing of the river. there are stepping stones which it is possible to cross with care. but probably not recommended for the unsteady. plus they can be covered if the river is high. across the road from its entrance us the pelican pub. another old building and a place to eat and get refreshed. nearby are stables too.
Really nice area with plenty of walks near by. you also have ogmore by sea which is a 2 minute drive away. the castle is free to enter with limited parking. you can cross the stepping stones to the other side of the river when the water is low. horse riding is available nearby. also a pub which is quite close.
I can see how this would be an amazing family day trip especially during this heatwave. the water was cool and the scenery amazing. the stepping stones were a great way across if you don’t feel like dipping a toe in.
Lovely spot to for a picnic and lovely stream to paddle in. parking could be difficult if very busy. ice cream van was there. also lovely horse riding school.
Lovely ruin and a very picturesque location. kids ( and big kids) will love the stepping stones over the river. could do with a little more signage and clear advice to visitors to keep dogs on leads and children off the walls!
