A confused museum showcasing a somewhat random mix of machinery and tech. definitely geared towards steam driven machine enthusiasts. the site itself was a rubbish to energy plant and you are free to explore it at your pleasure. be sure to go on a day when they fire up some machines. nice cafe on site.
Even though they weren't steaming, it was wonderful. the exhibits are displayed well and the plaques informative. i wasn't expecting the pye radio/tv exhibits but they're more local history and quite well done. the staff was friendly, too.
Excellent little museum by the river in cambridge. suitable for children & adults, especially any engineers. hands-on things for the kids to enjoy, including finding the hidden rats! well restored equipment from this old pumping station, plus a new section following the history of the pye company. nice little coffee shop and an outdoor bar.
Well worth a visit, get there during september 2023 and also see the amazing pye radio and tv exhibition too
Visited with my 6 year old. she really enjoyed the toilet roll challenges and facts as well as finding the rats. there was also an arts and craft activity ran by a volunteer. friendly staff, toilets, and cafe. the working type writer was a big hit. my daughter loved learning how to use it. i'd recommend making this a more interactive feature of the museum. i also taught her how to use an old phone. she loved the red phone box outside. needs a clean though. some dressing up provided, i reckon that could be a fun activity if there was more to do with it, for example, an interactive piece of technology.
