Proofing Solutions

Last autumn I was the victim of a cold caller who did a terrible bodge job of meshing my solar panels with nothing more than cheap chicken wire and screwing it into the sides of my panels. They then went on to do more ‘roof repairs’ that didn’t need doing and tried to charge me a few thousand pounds insisting on cash. Fortunately, my bank and Trading Standards saved me from paying them anything. I was therefore highly nervous about who to contact to do a good, proper job once and for all. Thankfully, my sister found Jake on ‘Next Door’ with rave reviews. After taking two more weeks to pluck up courage, I emailed him and he came to have a look very promptly. I was happy with his quote and three weeks later he arrived to put right the worst job he’s ever seen. He sought advice to resolve problems he encountered and am really happy with his friendly and professional approach. The mesh system he uses keeps the doves/pigeons away from the panels as the spikes deter them landing on or immediately near them. He also kindly replaced a couple of broken roof tiles, one of them being a ridge tile supplied and fixed by the bodge roofers. Excellent, professional job, netting in solar panels, and removing pigeons. This was done some weeks ago, and has stood the test of time, it took a few weeks for the pigeons to stop using our roof. It has been two days since Jake installed proofing measures on our roof, and although he said they’d most likely take a few days to work, I haven’t seen a single pigeon land there since! I’m extremely impressed. Jake has clearly researched all possible solutions and only offers options that will be effective. He suggested to start with proofing of the solar panels under which the pigeons were nesting, and as a follow up to add gel discs which reflect UV to the roof edge to stop them landing at all. However, we opted to go for both at once as it was the landing on the edge that was particularly problematic for us (and the soiling of windows/window ledges/anything in the garden underneath). He also suggested little “cages” he had designed to go over the downpipes so that the pigeons would not nest in them or use them to drink from. I would not hesitate to recommend Jake and although the solutions he offers may not be the cheapest, they are well worth investing in for anyone who is plagued by pigeons like we were! Jake visited a month or two back and suggested a few options to prevent endless pigeon fouling beside our house, under an overhanging roof. He suggested a solution no one else had - gel discs which disrupt UV light in the birds vision, and are really quite unobtrusive. He fitted them last week and we have had zero pigeons on that part of the roof since! I've seen a pigeon sitting further along, where there are no discs, but the flock no longer sits on our roof, and there's no more bird muck along my path! Proof that they really won't sit near the bird proofing. Wish we'd done it ages ago, and very glad we got in touch with Jake, as his solution was better than any others recommended elsewhere. 100% recommend!
