I’ve been coming to yoga with james so last few months and i can’t recommend it enough! it’s very mindful and relaxing experience. some sessions are more challenging than others but james usually gives enough alternatives to address begginers and more advanced yogis or less streched people. i brought my boyfriend few times who is not regular yogi and he enjoyed it as well! on top of yoga with james being good level for most of people, he gives plenty of advices, always plays nice background music and some violin/piano at the end and also there is always a nice mindful chat at the beggining which helps get into the right mindspace :)
James is a fabulous yoga teacher - creative sequencing means no two classes are the same, and his technical advice is great and pitched in a really helpful way. he also creates such a welcoming and non-judgmental space for everyone!
James is a highly knowledgeable teacher and a wonderful person, very kind and approachable, always a ray of light and a source of motivation. i have started practicing yoga about a couple years ago after certain struggles with my health, particularly constant neck and back pain. to be fair, most of my life yoga was one of the last things i would imagine myself doing, but only because i had a wrong idea of it: i thought it was all about putting yourself in funny postures and doing nothing - a torture for my mind that constantly craves to be occupied. eventually i came to yoga after all for health reasons, found it really beneficial for my spine and continued practicing it ever since. but when in winter 2022 i happened to come across one of james’s classes in cambridge in beautiful st paul’s, i discovered that it can also be so much fun. i was in the class as an observer - that session was a collaboration with local artists coming to sketch the process, me being one of them. by the end i found myself so engaged in the energy of the class that i felt like dropping the drawing and joining it instead. since then i have been regularly attending the classes - there is such a good variety to choose from: slower ones, more intense ones, beginner-friendly, advanced vinyasa, even with dance elements! and one is always unlike the other. what i enjoy especially is how open-minded james is in his approach. while being respectful to the origins of yoga traditions, he does not present it in a ‘preaching’ way or put anyone in a box. for someone like me it’s a breath of fresh air, as i used to be alienated by stereotypes that if you do yoga you have to lead a particular way of life, or aim towards becoming ‘enlightened’. but james bases his teaching on acceptance of what’s already there, and it makes you feel welcome no matter who you are or what your abilities are. i won’t dive too much into philosophy here because he will do it much better if you come to class, and trust me, it will be super engaging and even funny. i would recommend giving it a go to anyone. and finally, if you are hesitant, or struggling, there is always a concession rate option with no questions asked.
Cambridge yoga project is an excellent resource for both body and soul. i have practised yoga for over 30yrs and can honestly say james’ classes can be inspiring, challenging and restorative dependant on your selection and what you are looking for. james constantly strives to put on new events, try new classes. he has inspired and restores me over the last couple of years and i would not hesitate to recommend cyp to anyone - beginner to advance.
James's yoga classes are creative, fun, and sometimes challenging, but i always come away feeling invigorated and like i've learned something. there's been a great energy to every practice i've attended and james is knowledgeable, approachable and clearly dedicated to making sure everyone gets the most they can out the class. plus the classes are held in some beautiful spaces around cambridge, which is really special!
