Premier Inn Chelmsford City Centre hotel

Ended up with a disabled room which wasn't very clean (bathroom). Breakfast was cold as well. Location was good - right by the station but definitely not worth the money

As with most things these days, the staff make or break an experience. I had booked the hotel months ago, and a week before my stay I came in to get my bearings as the reason for my stay was to have laser eye surgery. The lady on reception stopped to chat and went above and beyond by suggesting she allocate me a room within east reach of the lifts, she said there would be somewhere I could leave my bag before checkin (my surgery was from 13:30) and couldn’t have been more helpful. Roll forward a week, and when I arrive I’m told there is no way they will accommodate putting my bag somewhere safe, however my room was available early, but I would not be able to access it without paying more money. I tried to explain my earlier conversation but the young girl couldn’t have been less helpful to the point I had to hold back tears. I should have been attending surgery on my own having recently suffered a family tragedy meaning they needed to be elsewhere, but this woman was so rude and unhelpful my family decided to stay with me and walk me back after my surgery. They then tried to order the advertised room service for me because I was so sensitive to the light, and the same girl told us they didn’t offer it and it wasn’t possible. Luckily we had packed some biscuits. Unfortunately she was working on the desk again the next morning so I had no one to discuss her service with. I had been so put at ease the week before and despite spending the first night on my own for nearly 4 weeks after my recent family circumstance, I felt at ease about coming and had been able to put my family at ease too. I’m disappointed beyond words. Why do people work in a customer facing role if they outwardly dislike people? If you’re visiting optical express for surgery, I do not recommend staying here, however convenient it may be.

Had a night here. Near to station & town centre. Easy check in. Room clean & tidy. Shame about view ( building site).😖🤣 Lovely breakfast, all freshly made. Staff attentive to guests & keeping food topped up. Overall a good stay. Will recommend & return.

This was a nice hotel as a base to stay when working in the area. No parking though and on Sundays if you arrive later that turns into an issue. Breakfast was great and service from staff was good too. Nice an quiet and a comfortable bed.

Stayed here for a couple of nights due to a family wedding and it was amazing! The staff were friendly, helpful, well organised and above all hardworking, while multitasking as well. The little, pocket-rocket (Oriental? looking) shift manager, whose name I've forgotten, sorry 😞) was so polite while dealing with a very tall, loud, argumentative male client, she kept her cool but stood her ground! The bed was the most comfortable hotel bed I've ever slept in, which is fantastic as I have a bad back!! It was also clean and fresh. The cleaning ladies were lovely too, polite and hardworking. The dinner and breakfast deal (£24.95, I think) was really good value and tasty too. Another staff member (Ellie?) was serving dinner until late and back early again in the morning to serve the breakfast. She must have been really tired but it didn't stop her being nice to customers and colleagues. Finally, the location... it was really close to the train station but in a place where there was no bustle, away from the high street.
