A very nice, original building in chester. made to a be a museum in the 1880's, the building itself is nearly as interesting as its contents.
When the teenager asks to go to the museum to have a look round as soon as she got off the train instead of the park. if that's what the teenager wants then not arguing with her as it kept her off her electronics whilst learning new things.
Old-fashioned museum in terms of many displays and some exhibits but it’s free. the roman tombstone exhibit is fascinating, with clear explanations of the designs and carvings on the stones. i also enjoyed the house museum at the back, although the floor arrangement is confusing, as it’s not in chronological order. spent about an hour.
An astonishing museum that tells no small amount of chester's history. the ancient roman exhibits are vast and come highly recommended!
Really interesting mixture of items ranging from roman to natural history, mostly covering the history of the chester area. learnt so much about the city. bigger than i thought and can easily spend over an hour there. the building itself is also beautiful. free entry too.
