Matalan

I have shopped at Matalan previously and had no major issues or concerns. However, I would now be cautious and advise others to be wary of the level of customer service if you do have a problem. I bought a pair of jeans on 4th November 2022. They were a good fit and looked to be of reasonable quality. On 8th December, I went to put them on and found the seam at the rear had come apart. I have no idea how or when this happened. I do not do anything out of the ordinary while wearing them. I have worn them around 10 times, and they have been washed once. Unfortunately, I no longer have the receipt, as I believed they were ok, so threw it away. I returned them to the store for an exchange on 9th December. Once I had managed to find the only manned till in the store, for returns. I wasn't expecting any problem exchanging this, clearly faulty, garment, but I was mistaken. The person at the till, looked at the garment, asked when I bought them, and if I still had the receipt. I explained why I didn't have the receipt but told her when the purchase was made. With little consideration, she responded that this was normal wear and tear, and no exchange would be made. I asked her if she would be happy if she had bought a pair of jeans and they barely lasted a month. She didn't answer and just repeated her stance. I asked her if she was aware of the Consumer Rights Act, that says that goods should be of 'satisfactory quality'. She acknowledged said law but said it was irrelevant. I wasn't happy, so she said she would ask a manager. After a while, she returned and said the manager had confirmed what she had already stated. As I wasn't satisfied, she said she would call the manager. After another wait, another woman arrived. She briefly inspected the garment and, again, said it wouldn't be exchanged. I repeated that the garment was not fit for purpose, but to no avail. Their position was that this pair of jeans, which were sold faded, had been clearly worn excessively. I suggested they bring a new pair down to compare as they had been hardly worn. This 'manager' then said she had asked the manager, and they had said no exchange. I told them they were disregarding my rights under the Law, but they seemed to think this was a discretionary Law! I told them I would pursue the matter further and left as it was clear they were not bothered. Terrible customer service. AVOID

What is happening to this place? It's self-service! Yes like a lot of places now but the others seem more set up for it. while here it's just the old till turned to face you so you can do it yourself. The atmosphere inside is bleak. Which is a shame as they have a few nice bits in there. I spent 15mins looking for assistance and when I finally found someone they told me that couldn't help as they were only there to stack shelves! So ended up going to the front door to ask the security guy who then bent over backwards to help me.

Absolutely disgusting attitude from staff member at refunds desk today. Brought back a dress and it was past the refund date, the cashier told me it’s worth less than I purchased, I understood and told her I was absolutely fine with it. She continued to complain, I explained I was fine with me not receiving the full amount as I was exchanging it for a few items and not wanting my money back and I understood it was past the date. The item had literally two strands of hair on them, she complained and said she could refuse to take it in.. but didn’t. I apologised for the hair and was happy to take the dress back if it’s such a problem, the cashier just continued with her rude attitude huffing and puffing. Taking her time staring at the receipt before she gave it to me, clearly just taking her time because she was in a bad mood. I was polite (even smiling at this rude woman) and understanding and kept apologising but the cashier just didn’t want any of it. But was friendly to the customer behind me. Won’t be returning after this disgusting behaviour.I get it some people have bad days but to be passively aggressive like she was, holding the paper and refusing to give it to me until she decided I’d waited enough? That’s just weird.

I recently had the pleasure of shopping at Matalan and I must say, it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. This shop truly exceeded my expectations in terms of quality, selection, and customer service. Firstly, the layout of the shop was incredibly well-organized and easy to navigate. I appreciated how the different sections were clearly labeled, making it simple to find exactly what I was looking for. The aisles were spacious, making it comfortable to shop, especially during busy periods. The selection at Matalan was outstanding. There was a wide range of clothing options for men, women, and children, catering to various tastes and styles. I found everything from casual everyday wear to formal attire, all of which were fashion-forward and reasonably priced. Additionally, their home department offered a diverse collection of furnishings, homeware, and decor, allowing me to find some unique pieces to spruce up my living space. The quality of the products at Matalan is remarkable. From the materials used in their clothing items to the durability of their homeware, I could tell that their merchandise was made with care and with an emphasis on longevity. Despite the affordable prices, I experienced no compromises in terms of quality. Moreover, the customer service at Matalan was exemplary.
