I had the pleasure of attending classes, tests and events both in doncaster and at harewood with both our dogs. the special days out such as harewood were fantastic, catering to a subset of handlers and dogs (advanced / intermediate / novice) i cannot recommend them enough. the weekly training group in doncaster was equally as good with all skill levels attending. darren communicates his knowledge very well which we make full use of in our 1-2-1 sessions which i requested whenever i felt i needed a bit more guidance rather than use group time. it has been 8 years since we started training with darren and due to darrens skill as a trainer i have had some fantastic seasons with my dogs both on peg, beating and pigeon days. which has allowed me to enjoy a relaxed days shooting, and outside of the field it's nice to have well behaved and controlled dogs.
One year ago i went to the northern shooting show and met darren whilst he was doing his demonstrations i was so interested i stayed a further 4 hours and couldn’t stop watching that then gave me the insentive to fulfill my dream of buying and training my very own gundog. so i quickly made myself a member of kirkbourne spaniels and bought my lab pup. at 5 months old (august 22) i started training in the novice class with darren and his team. i loved it and had the bug!! we attended every session we could and with the kirkbourne team behind me we progressed. the team at kirkbourne are helpful in every way ensuring the handler get the best out of their dog. january 23 we passed the bronze assessment and moved into the intermediate class darren and his team are helping me push my dog to her full capabilities all the team are there every step of the way to help you progress. once you join you will never look back as you are made to feel so welcome and apart of the kirkbourne family. (as long as you have a sense of humour)
If you have a gundog and want to learn to handle it then this is the place for you. the lessons are run in groups from beginners to advanced and even individual lessons. the emphasis is on train to win and proven training methods that give results. you'll always have fun come rain or shine and leave with a smile on your face. darren the owner of the club has recently been voted gundog trainer of the year. don't hesitate, contact them today on their website or through facebook.
This is not just a dog training club, it’s a family. great fun but varied training to suit all gundog breeds even if you just want a dog that walks well in a lead, recalls when you ask the training will take you to your goal. step it up with the varied levels of skill or try for a place in the gundog team to compete in a simulated shoot day competition or join the weekend or evening training plus full day group training at various training grounds in yorkshire.
I've been training at kirkbourne for a couple of years now and the main thing you will notice when you come here to train is how friendly everyone is. its not just a training club after standing in fields training for 2/4 hours a day in the rain, snow or sunshine, you end up being friends and family. it never feels like training as its always done with a smile on our faces. i had a really stubborn, near enough feral puppy when i started and hes come on so well since training with darren and the gang. so much so, i decided one cocker wasn't enough, so i added more crazy into the mix and got another. i always recommend kirkbourne to people who say they are having issues with their dog, i can't speak highly enough of them. awesome place, keep up the good work guys
