During our week stay in the area we visited here twice for good. once for lunch and again for dinner. the food was delicious and the service was great. reasonably priced. best of all it is incredibly dog friendly. some lovely outdoor seating with a beautiful view.
Brilliant pub. we had a great lunch as a large group - the food is excellent and really well cooked - the seafood was particularly good, including the (huge) mixed seafood platter, and the portions were generous. you can access the beach and walk off your lunch easily too - perfect. more than anything though, the owner and staff are friendly, attentive and have made a really welcoming environment - will definitely return when next in the area.
We had a lovely lunch at the steamboat. we had our dog with us and it was great we could bring her along. one of our party had a gluten intolerance and there was a good selection of food choices available. 3 of us shared the seafood platter, which is a must if you love shellfish, and the other 4 having a selection of specials and menu items. the food was fresh and tasty and the service was first class - a lovely mix of professional and welcoming in all the right measures. we will definitely be back when we are next in the area.
We really enjoyed visiting, the food was excellent and the service was excellent. we visited twice. the first time we visited we had the chowder which was absolutely delicious probably my favourite dish i ate all week visiting southerness! second time we had the seafood platter which was cooked to perfection, plenty on the platter as well they do not skimp on portion sizes here! the views outside are also very beautiful so if the weather is lovely they also have a beer garden to enjoy and relax.
Claims to be the best pub in dumfries and galloway. after having lunch here, i can certainly see why. food was delicious, smoked salmon to start and the seafood chowder for mains. i've not had pub food this good for a long time. service was great too. pub is very authentic with log fires and salmon fishing memorabilia together with a load of award certs across the top of the fireplace. great views over the water opposite. i will surely revisit when i'm back in the area.
