The Portrait gallery of Scotland has free entry but you can donate 10£ with the tap&pay system at the entrance. I would strongly recommend visiting for the beauty of the building and the interiors. In general the pictures and portraits are nice, my favorite was the three surgeons against cancer. Worth mentioning also the library on the second floor.

Beautiful gallery of portraiture. Has gone stunning interior design and plenty of galleries to make your way through. Would suggest around 2 hours to fully explore the site. There is also a sizeable cafe on the grounds with plenty of sweet treats to pick from.

Wow, this place! It's magical - from the main entrance hall to the library through to all the wonderful gallery spaces - even the stairwells are pretty and full of interest; with busts and beautiful stained glass windows. You'll want to stay for a few hours as there's quite a lot to see (the gallery appears deceptively small) It was just such a lovely space, with lots of seating all around, inviting you to stay and soak it all in. My favourite gallery in Edinburgh for sure.

I really enjoyed this museum. Entry is free but it is suggested a donation to keep it going. I loved the paintings and how the museum is designed to talk about Scotland's history and how well all the information is placed. Although there are three floors, the museum can be seen in two hours easily. I really recommend the visit if you have the time.

Surprisingly fantastic. Tells many stories of Scotland’s making and heritage through its portraits and comes right up to modern day. Do in chronological order from the top floor. Beautiful building as well, especially the great hall. And a lovely cafe with tasty salads and cakes. Including gluten free ones!
