Visited chez jules more times that i can count in my 4 years of studying in edinburgh – the most value-for-money, scrumptious steak and seafood meal you can find for sure! my partner and i have been craving their french onion soup ever since we left the uk. the atmosphere is so cozy and perfect for a date or casual night out as well, do visit if you’re in the area x
I sat outside without booking so didn’t get to experience inside the restaurant, but it seems lovely. the sauce for steak was very tasty and peppery, however the meat itself a bit hard to chew—but it is still good value of money! will come again to sit inside and experience the restaurant better and try other menu
This place is fun and bustling and the prices are very reasonable. i popped in for a quick snack. i ordered the frog legs and 1/2 lobster. highly recommend the frog legs as they are hard to find and they prepared them perfectly. *they also bring you olives, salami, bread and a small butter lettuce salad.
I was able to get a table very quick before a rush. the atmosphere is extremely loud with chatter and phone ringing nonstop. however, i had no issues with service. i had the lunch 3- courses. i like the french onion soup, the steak and frites were good but too prepper-y, and the chocolate mousse was good! i would recommend going for lunch. just expect loud atmosphere.
Visited for my birthday dinner with my partner. i have never tried french cuisine so we decided to give it a go. the service is fabulous. appetizer: butter salad with sauce, olives, bread with butter. starter: onion soup - typical french dish. not something i would have expected. the soup was very sweet, and the bits of melted cheese wasn't to my taste. frog legs - typical french dish. the taste was a little bit bland and the whole dish was very oily. main: surf & turf with garlic butter. both the steak and half lobster were done perfectly and absolutely delicious. however, we weren't asked how we wanted our steak made. garlic butter was great! rabbit leg - typical french dish. the rabbit was a little bit hard, and the sauce was very strong and left an aftertaste of wine. i suppose the dish was made as per recipe, just not my taste preference. dessert: toffe sticky pudding with ice cream. tasty as always. the restaurant has a retro style and is very loud, not a fine dining restaurant but definitely worth a visit to try some new dishes. i'm sure if someone is a fan of french cuisine they'll love this place!
