Not the best value for money. simple layout and strange as our booking was for two adults and for some reason they had it laid out two extra fold-out single beds taking up the floor space. the room itself was large but was odd to have the extra beds setup. staff at reception were great and friendly. the location is unbeatable which is probably why it’s a popular choice. otherwise, the building is old— the room wasn’t particularly clean with dirt marks around the walls, furniture and on the towels too. it was okay for a one-night stay but i wouldn’t recommend it for any longer. seems a popular spot for large group bookings. shame really as there are much better choices we stayed at before for a similar price point— such as the hub by premier inn just around the corner. on a summer’s day, appreciated the extra plug in fan they provided in the room and the windows open nice and wide onto a quiet back street.
If you're looking for basic, clean accommodations with a great location, this is it. close to the train station and airport tram and a few blocks from the cowgate into the heart of the city. the room was clean and comfortable. the staff was cheery, friendly and helpful. the breakfast was pretty good, lots of hot food, baked goods and decent coffee - get there early, after 9am the place was packed. one note about street noise - the hotel was quiet but people on the street at night could be bothersome. we use earplugs and so slept soundly. i would definitely stay here again.
Conveniently located, about a 10 min walk from edinburgh waverley train station. a basic hotel with decent rooms. i found the reception staff quite helpful- they considered my request to give me the quietest room of the available options. they warn you about external noise as it's in the town centre, but this is subjective, and usually limited to tyre noise from passing vehicles. early morning, there might be a comparatively louder noise of bins being wheeled over the cobbled street below. overall, much less noisy than you would expect from it's location. unlimited breakfast is a big pull, and worth it. the restaurant starts filling up by 9 am, so you might want to stuff yourself earlier. for other meals, you order and pay at the counter first, and then the food is served. so service sometimes isn't like you would expect in a mainstream restaurant. this is an area that could be improved upon.
Our stay at the travelodge was fine although very expensive when travelling in august. the hotel staff were excellent, very accomodating and helpful. the room was fine, quite basic but had a coffee machine and the bed was comfortable. probably to be expected due to the location, but it was noisy with the windows open, trying to have a short nap one afternoon was impossible.
Rooms and features are a little dated. otherwise they're very clean and comfortable. exactly what you'd expect from a no frills traveller's hotel. location wise it was perfectly nestled just at the other corner from the royal mile. most attractions in the city are walkable from the hotel. staff was very friendly and the breakfast buffet was generous in offerings. great value for money.
