Beautiful! take a few moments to make your way inside. my husband is into stained glass and the light makes it so striking. i also saw it night and it was kinda spooky and majestic.
St giles' cathedral lies on edinburgh's royal mile about two thirds of the way up from the palace of holyroodhouse to edinburgh castle. for the better part of a thousand years st giles' has been at the physical and spiritual heart of scotland's capital city and many key moments in history have been played out in or around it. although founded in about 1130, st giles' central role in edinburgh's life has subjected it to more change than seen in most churches. as a result, most of the exterior dates back to a remodelling in the years to 1833. and the interior you see today comes from a restoration completed in 1883.
Wonderful 900 year cathedral located on the royal mile. regular services are held throughout the week, especially on sundays. the cathedral also hosts concerts and other events during the year. there are many different areas of the cathedral to admire and visitors are asked to make a donation to help maintain the building. there is an adjacent shop which sells quality goods associated with the cathedral.
Situated at the heart of edinburgh old town you'll find the spectacular st giles' cathedral. free to enter (although they do take donations) and wander around at your leisure. it was quite busy with tourists during our visit but the cathedral still had an air of calmness which you would expect in a place of worship. smaller than some cathedrals i have visited but this didn't lessen the awe inspiring historical and religious architecture. photography allowed.
Historic church with some beautiful stained glass windows and an organ that looks quite futuristic. it is free to enter but there is a 6£ donation ask. outside there is also a statue dedicated to adam smith on the west side
