Mum lived at westfield for nearly 3 years until she died in may 2019. the staff, management and residents are a hive of happy activity, mum was so happy here and i feel incredibly lucky to have have found such a wonderful home for her. i went to a number of care homes to visit before choosing westfield, i think a well managed home is vitally important. good management means staff are happy and able to do the essential caring, with a low turn over of staff - which is really important. the food at westfield is great, personal tastes are catered for. when i evaluated care homes for mum, i was surprised to find that the most expensive were not the best. mum had vascular dementia and i was told to make sure that when this condition progressed she would then not be segregated or 'moved on'. one 'top' home in beverley said if mum deteriorated she could go to one of their other homes to a dementia unit - moving my mum was the last thing i wanted to consider! the staff managed mums dementia with gentle professionalism, they all became my second family, with the house feeling like mums home and me welcome anytime. the most difficult part for me was when mum was ill before her death, but this is where westfield excelled. the care, support and attention was second to none. at a difficult time like this, it is not only the resident who needs the support - but the family and loved ones too. support, love and compassion at westfield is boundless. if you have a loved one do visit westfield and see if it's right for them. i chose it because at 29 or so residents, it exuded a friendly family atmosphere. mum had a quiet life, i couldn't imagine her handling a home with 60 or more residents, that would have felt too busy for her. i feel privileged to have had mum living close to me, and to have made some wonderful friendships with residents, staff and management alike. mum was loved and cared for, and her condition managed with patience, compassion and understanding. what a wonderful team you all are westfield, suzanne, pete and the team - you have touched my heart with kindness and i thank you for the loving care you showed mum and myself over the years. stephanie
