I am writing this review after my daughter passed her GCSE in maths aged 16. Our daughter always seemed to struggle with her maths from a very early age through primary school years. We tried a tutor for a while and this helped massively...the tutor then had to finish teaching our daughter to pursue her studies at university.. our daughter then went to secondary school but again seemed to thrive in other subjects but struggle with maths, she got very upset at prospect of failing her GCSE and having to resit them as her predictions from her teachers were indicating she would not pass maths. Something had to change. This is where we came across Kumon. We got in touch and spoke to a lovely man called Andy. He assessed her and spent a lot of time with her at her assessment getting insight into areas she struggles with and assured us it's never too late to get help and he believed he could help her! We enrolled our daughter to the Kumon programme run by Andy where she would go to class every week, be set daily homework for rest of the week until class the following week. If our daughter ever got stuck Andy would always be there to help, over the phone, in class and also on occasions in person in his own time! He genuinely wanted our daughter to thrive and understand and learn. Something that to this day we are very appreciative of. He believed in our daughter and in turn this helped our daughter to believe in herself.. it took a while but she soon started to believe she could do the work set. We noticed over time her teachers at school were commenting how her confidence is starting to slowly shine through and her grades were improving gradually. If our daughter didn't understand something Andy would explain patiently until she did understand...a lot of the time her mistakes were from self doubt and low confidence, Andy always made sure to build up her self belief. Our daughter attended Kumon for approx 18 months-2 years during the last phases of her secondary schooling. If she was ever unsure on any of her schoolwork Andy would take the time to help her.. something he didn't have to do but he did...this is because Andy genuinely wanted to help and see her thrive and achieve things she didn't think she could. Andy is patient but firm and delivers the Kumon programme with perfection. He always ensured we had regular feedback and support too. Our daughters predictive grades went from a fail to a pass. Covid came and this absolutely did not stop Kumon classes..zoom meetings online class became a weekly routine and he would collect and deliver work every week and was always on the end of the phone to discuss anything. When our daughter was revising for exams Andy suggested Olivia finished the Kumon sessions and focussed on her revision for her exams...and told her to believe in herself and use the skills she had learnt through the Kumon programme.she sat her exams and using the skills she learnt, the advice she was given she passed her GCSE exams. Maths has always been a struggle for our daughter throughout all her school time.Andy and the Kumon programme changed this massively! Andy is a very humble person but he really is a shining star and not only had a positive impact on our daughter's life but hundreds of others too, I only wish we knew about this programme when she was younger. If anybody is considering Kumon and Andy as a Kumon instructor do not hesitate, you will not be disappointed, your child will be happy, confident and thrive in maths in and outside of school.andy is very supportive and an absolute credit to the Kumon programme. Our daughter has now gone onto college, maths is no longer something she dreads, she has a little part time job which involves money and maths, she does this with confidence! This may seem a long review but I wanted to share the positive impact Kumon and Andy's support has had on our daughter's life. I still feel I cant praise and recommend Andy enough but I can guarantee that if you enroll your child to the programme amazing things will be achieved! Excellent value for money too!
