Excellent house in lovely gardens. house is so well preserved, and the grounds a delight. large outdoor adventure park for kids. farm is undergoing necessary upgrade. well worth a visit.
Enjoyed exploring the rooms in the house, and downstairs in the servants quarters. as a personal preference i most enjoyed those rooms uncluttered with the more temporary exhibitions. i would have enjoyed the paintings more curated ina plainer space.
This place was amazing! all the staff are volunteers but they were super friendly and so knowledgeable. some of the history and stories in here were just great. it is a real journey through opulence and a rare glimpse to the past. the craftsmanship of everything in the main house is a wonder. good facilities, lovely grounds, lake and gardens and weirdly....penguin's. cracking day out.
Where to start ... a fantastic day out. prebooked timed tickets, arrived a little early, but still able to drive in. house didn't open until 11am, but we explored terrace gardens whilst waiting. the gardens were stunning, capability brown working his magic again, and to be honest i was already sold on the visit after wandering and exploring outside. house was interesting and particularly enjoyed the coronation exhibition. the outside though trumps the inside and i was pleased to be out again. penguins, guinea pigs, goats, alpacas, pigs, rabbits etc are in enclosures to view; we quickly moved on from these and made our way to the lake. the free ferry was running today over to where the walled garden was, which was stunning. the old bothy served toasties and drinks, which were delicious, good value and the pastrami & gherkin is highly recommended. we decided to do the loop walk back, which was lovely, and then continued our walk round another loop taking in the church and woodland wonderland which had lovely basket maze, throne, deer and hares... beautiful. from here, there were lovely views back of the house. throughout, there were plenty of places to purchase food, drink and ice creams, plenty of loos, benches, picnic areas and opportunities for those needing transport to get the courtesy bus. loved it here.
Lovely house! you can feel and see wealth of the owners. incredible amount of paintings showing idealistic beauty and richness of the times. personally i was fascinated by all ceilings. definitely worth visiting.
