Return visit to the since-updated museum in Leicester after more than ten years. A medium-sized regional museum, more impressive than some. As usual, it covers a diverse collection of subjects, from Victorian paintings (a small but distinguished selection, permanent), artefacts from ancient Egypt, zoology items that help explain the wonders of the natural world, and - of course - a couple of dinosaur rooms. Plenty of stuff for the whole family, and you'll often find primary school classes here. On the ground floor, there's also a café and a museum shop (naturally), while the temporary exhibitions can be found on the upper level (lifts available). There were two ones during my visit, one of which was devoted to the "Punk" music and fashion scene of the 1970s, the other to (mostly) German expressionist art of the 1920s, including paintings of the "Brücke" and "Blauer Reiter" movements, which appealed to me more than the punk thingee. Anyway, Leicester Museum and Art Gallery is certainly worth a visit if you spend any amount of time in the city. Free entry, and photography is allowed even in the temporary exhibits.
