Excellent gastro pub! one of the best, albait on the more expensive sites in newcastle. everytime that we visit the food is absolutely incredible! this time we got the slow cooked roast and it didn't disappoint. definitely check it out if you haven't already done so.
Really good food, lovely to see british food done so well- mostly fish and very meaty options but a couple of good veggie dishes. one small quibble: the chef’s taste for hp sauce is extreme and certainly an outlier to mainstream preferences. one of our party ordered the haggis on toast and it was sitting in a pool of it- way too much - overpowering where a touch might have set it off but not drown the haggis. was a shame- everything else well balanced, conceived and executed.
Had excellent food there, the service was great, i would have gone back if i had stayed longer in newcastle. sadly we were not hungry enough to try more dishes.
To say this is pub food would be giving it the most massive insult. our meal was absolutely amazing, i am renowned for not clearing my plate, but i ate every. single. mouthful! i cannot recommend this place highly enough, the pub itself has an old world charm not often found in a city pub nowadays, situated near the quay, it's just lovely! the staff were knowledgeable, courteous and really efficient and the food was really just outstanding. we will be back at the earliest opportunity!!
How to put this in more than.. excellent venue with a canny bar line up, a cracking selection of beers, cider, wine & spirits.. as for food.. i only tried a couple o bar snacks, which were canny (would like to try some of the proper food menu.. maybe on a return visit) & there is a tremendous beer yard if ya wanna sit outside
