Nothing left of the original castle but the later building houses a very good museum on 4 floors. however it might be just me but i found it a bit difficult to find my way around once inside as the stair wells are at various places and it's not obvious how to get to the next floor. ground are dog friendly but gardens are not that well kept. adventure play area for kids looks very good.
Definitely worth a visit! the ticket is valid for a year! gardens pretty with fantastic views across the city! a great adventure playground for the children and robin hood experience is perfect for younger visitors. the main castle is interesting with art and history galleries, and a super cafe with really friendly staff! sadly tickets for cave tours were all booked up! so, book online if you want to do this! don't miss the brewers yard round the corner from the castle and next the old trip to jerusalem pub!
Very nice visit here on bank holiday. very modern castle due to restoration. some parts were really nice whilst some were bit empty. however really good visit and nice experience. everything is kept neat and tidy.
Great place, we took my mum in law out for her birthday, and it was a lovely and interesting visit. £12 per adult, and you then have 12 months free admission, and because kids go free, we will be able to take our grandchildren as many times as we want, win-win, i say 😀. the art galleries and other displays were so interesting, and in my book, every day is a school day. don't miss out on this experience.
We bought the tickets online, so there is no need to wait in the queue for a long time. is 10 minutes walking from the train station, and along the way, you can see robin hood statue. the views, the place.. just in love 😍 you can learn many things, and for kids they are so many things and activities inside the castle/museum. we took a cave tour as well for £5/person...is something to not miss.
