A 2 night stay here for our weekend oxford city visit. well situated about a 40 minute walk (along the thames toe path) from the centre meaning you have to pass the university college rowing clubs on the way into town - well worth seeing the long boat practice sessions. hotel is lovely; comfortable, stylish (theme based on local milliners heritage). dog friendly which had its perks as breakfast had to be taken in the bar - to be honest, i preferred this as it gave us a bit of peace and quiet over breakfast! friendly and helpful staff too which is always good to have when you’re in a ‘foreign place’! enjoyed our stay but as ever, could always do with a bit more milk and extra tea bags!
A lovely hotel located in a nice area (iffley is nice, outside of it is a bit rough). the room part of the hotel looks refurbished, and they did a good job. the staff was very welcoming and overall vibe was good. the bar area and the personal working there could use some improvements. it looks a bit dated and the personal did not meet the hospitality standards of the rest of the hotel. overal it was a lovely experience staying at the hotel (the lady welcoming and accommodating guests during breakfast was extraordinary!!).
We stayed for 2 nights, room was spacious with all amenities. really comfortable bed. also, excellent breakfast with a variety of options. wendy made the breakfast experience so much moreenjoyable, with catering to our needs. thank you very much wendy. 😊
We wanted to visit oxford, but did not want to stay in the town centre. the mercure hotel was perfectly located for our 3 night stay. a cab to the city was about £5-£6 and it was only a 5 minute drive. to walk would've been too far, but a cab, or a bus was available. you can walk to the city along the lock, but we didn't really have the weather for it, unfortunately. the price for the room was just right, and the interior is very nice. the room was excellent for the 4 of us and was very spacious, with a mini-fridge, coffee machine and tea facilities. the bathroom was huge, with a shower and bath. we ate two evening meals in the bar and it was just right for us. the restaurant food for breakfast was varied and delicious. the service was excellent across the board from the front desk to the bar staff etc. everybody made us feel very welcome. one lovely, older lady took a few minutes out her morning duties in the breakfast room to speak to us every day, which was a lovely touch. she pointed us in the right direction for some lovely sites, and in particular, iffley lock, which is about 5 minutes walk from the hotel. without her approaching us, we wouldn't have known about it. thank you. she was a lovely person and reminded me of my mum (the kids thought it to). i would highly recommend.
I booked a stay at hawkwell house last minute (the morning of our trip) and subsequently managed to get a decent deal, the cost was only marginally more than a premier inn but the experience was far better. the hotel is a mix of contemporary and traditional with the style suiting all age groups (my daughter of 15 and me at 45 both loved it). the location is in a very beautiful location just a couple of miles outside of oxford. there was plenty of parking, very attractive grounds and an easy walk or bus journey depending on how much time you have on your hands (we ran into oxford along the thames and then got the bus home later). i've stayed away with work on dozens of occasions over the last 20 years and this is one of the best all round hotels for style, convenience and cost and it is definitely on my list to go back with my wife one day. i'll be on the look out for more deals in the future.
