A wonderful place, a genuine taste of japan in a small, crowded but friendly space in oxford. it's excellent value, properly japanese in flavour and rightly one of the most packed places in the city.
Heard great things about this place and have been wanting to try for ages! unfortunately there’s always a long line outside and so i only managed to get in today after trying three separate times. i had the yakiniku beef special (£9), miso soup and rice, and my vegan friend got the tofu steak. we also got the buttered potatoes, which were really good (£4). the miso soup was amazing and the tofu was soft and well seasoned, but i thought the beef was a bit tough and lacked sweetness. we were seated quite intimately with two other pairs and the turnover rate at this restaurant is quite high, so we spent only about an hour there.
Mixed feelings about this place. the sushi was nice but it was way too overpriced for what you get. 8 pieces for 13£, 6 for 9£. there are limited seats, and the space is so small and loud. you also don’t get much time there. poor value for money.
Food was good, but slightly on the pricey side. seats are limited so sharing with other customers is an efficient and effective way to serve more people! highly recommend the stir fried burdock!
One of my favorite restaurants i have ate at in the uk!! went here twice during my 2 day stay in oxford because the home-cooked food is so comforting. extremely high quality and greatly priced for the portion sizes. you are seated with other parties, which is pretty common in asia. highly recommend the salmon dishes for dinner!
