The pub was completely empty at lunchtime. other pubs nearby were busy as we found out. hence no atmosphere. food was good but we only had burgers so not a special lunch. service was good and barman jolly. historic place with a possible nelson's signature on the wall.
Very disturbed regarding their misrepresentation of there price's. see photo over bar advertising real ales at £2.95 on tuesdays. well it was tuesday and i ordered their listed one and only real ale and a pint of cider which came to £11.20. when i questioned the price the bar man was nonchalant and said blame the management. false advertising is finable by law. .get it together mr manager or loose more customers
New front of house staff jack was brilliant. very friendly quick with service and happy to have a quick banter. food was great and the atmosphere is fantastic for anyone who’s a fan of old style pubs.
Read such great reviews so only one that we stopped by when drove to portsmouth for a day out. dog friendly yes it was all around the pub but nothing on menu for dogs so something to add maybe. a bowl of water was given though! ambience decent. food was average! the seafood pie was a let down! the cocktail was just sugar sweet. chicken was tender in the meal. sauce though tasted more like passata. lasagne was decent. but for the price main with some peas thrown as side and chips or fries hmm… ! seasoning, taste all needed a bit of an extra!
Lovely 18th century pub. situated just across the road from the beautiful portsmouth cathedral. serving good food menu choices as well as wine and beers. i can recommend the gammon steak it was delicious. service was very efficient and friendly and also a great interior decor which made the visit more enjoyable. highly recommended.
