From the moment my daughter and I arrived we were greeted by the reception staff who were just wonderful. The manager went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time and upgraded us as I hadn't been able to get hold of anyone on reception via phone. The room was lovely and views exceptional. My daughter says its one of the best hotels with such lovely people and we enjoyed real valuable time together. Thank you

I have just been to the spa here and it was very nice. The spa was clean, not too busy on a Sunday morning and it had several facilities. The swimming pool is big, warm and well maintained. A jacuzzi would have been great. You can have free hot drinks and water and the changing rooms have plenty of space and lockers. Finally, friendly staff is always willing to help.

I recently stayed at the hotel with my daughter and her two young children. It was one of those fated holidays where multiple things went wrong - missing baggage on arrival, baby got sick, 5 year old banged head and had to go to A&E, flights had to be postponed at short notice and stay extended. The friendliness and support of the hotel staff was quite remarkable in helping us with all these mishaps; in my many years of travel I have not experienced this. We have stayed at the Mercure multiple times before and definitely see this as the best hotel in the city - nice comfortable rooms, great location, spacious lounge area and good food. But the staff really are exceptional and want to extend my thanks to all who made our stay as comfortable as possible.

My train was cancelled and I had to book a hotel for the night. Check in was slow and when I finally received my keycard and got to my room, the card didn't work so I had to come back downstairs. "You shouldn't keep it in the same pocket as your phone, you demagnetised it" said the woman on reception. I do wish that hotel receptionists would stop using that excuse - it's gas-lighting and not true. I had a meal at the large restaurant overlooking the botanical garden. I was put quite close to the only other occupied table, which contained four loud drunk women. Service was very fast at least so I was able to eat and leave quickly. I found the spa, which wasn't exactly well-sign-posted (I had to ask another hotel guest in the end to show me how to get to reception), and explained I didn't have a swimming costume due to the unexpected hotel stay. At other hotels I've stayed at, there are usually a few items in lost and found they let you borrow. Not here sadly. So I didn't get to use the facilities. Breakfast was nice, with a good selection and friendly staff. I probably would consider staying here again, as long as I'd packed in advance.

The staff where lovely and rooms where spacious, however, one of the sheets on the bed was not very clean. The matress was so uncomfortable I woke with a bad back, could feel every spring. There was no parking available, I asked at the spa reception as this was the first door I came to and was told you have to find car parking, once checked in overheard someone being told about car parks that you can get 50% off at. The pool was OK but as it is open to more than just the hotel it quickly became overcrowded so couldn't enjoy that. The breakfast was lovely plenty to choose from. Overall it was OK, but personally overpriced for the one night we stayed.
