I recently bought a women’s gravel bike at the Decathlon in Sheffield, but unfortunately, I wasn’t able to reach the brake shifters on the drop handlebars effectively. My husband went into the shop to discuss this with Rupert and suggested we swap the shifters with a smaller version. After researching online and ordering a smaller shifter, we could not make them work independently. I then called Decathlon and was in touch with Rupert, who empathised and said he would do some research to ascertain whether the new shifters would be compatible. He then emailed me back to say that if I dropped the bike off at the workshop, he would happily try to make them work. However, even he could not make the new shifters work as they were incompatible with the bike’s derailleur. Determined to try and find a solution that was right for me, we talked about my priorities for the bike, and together we devised a plan to replace the drop handlebar with a flat handlebar that would have easy-to-reach brakes. Rupert quickly got to work and was able to customise my bike by the next day. Because of Rupert’s knowledge, professionalism and determination to persevere until we found a solution, I now have a brilliant new bike that fits my requirements. I cannot recommend the Decathlon team highly enough to those looking to get a new bike.
