Gosh. No words. Apart from disappointing. Ok some more words found now. First time here and I booked the owner Rob. I should have paid more heed to the reviews. I went in there admittedly with bad hair. Just moved from London. Not had a haircut for 5 months so had plenty to play with. I came out with everything I did not ask for! I got a square flat bob with a short fringe. An unmanageable cut. Rob seemed ok at first. After reading reviews I decided best to get him on my side! He was a bit aloof. The wash was ok. The conditioner was nonexistent as in it was applied and washed out immediately so no benefit. And no rob no conditioner is that instant. No recommendation for any treatments which I needed because my hair was dry. I asked advice. I got meh advice. Very noncommittal. We chatted. But I could detect his disinterest, arrogance and passive aggressive side emerging when the cut was started. I asked for some shaping round the sides. He insinuated I was being stupid! That my hair was thin and couldn’t take a little shape. Outcome: my hair is short and dull and shapeless. My fringe is cropped shorter than a newborns. It’s a block with an edge at the top. I’d read the reviews and his scathing replies and he took great pleasure in telling me about his ‘nightmare’ clients and those he has banned. I think he is just disinterested and arrogant and too full of his own self importance. Not very humble at all for a hairdresser with so much experience but no real skill. Until the last moment he thought I was a visitor to Torquay so didn’t really care because he wouldn’t see me again. This also came up in convo. I specifically said ‘not a short fringe’. Infact I have bangs. Now I have a few cms of an unaltered fringe so it’s not workable at all. I specifically asked for graduation at the sides. I have a block. A shapeless block that will take months and months to grow out so I can then find someone who will listen and work with me rather than do what they want to my hair. It all seems just hasty and he seemed bored and just disinterested. No offer of a drink either. Had to ask for both me and my dog. I think to be honest Rob is just a bit conceited and arrogant and possesses a hierarchical superiority so he doesn’t listen but just does what he wants and thinks he can get away with it because of tourist trade. Im sure he has returning customers but I booked the same day and had a choice of free slots. I’m really disappointed and won’t recommend. I’ve heard great things about Kirsty and I wish I’d booked her. Back to tying my hair up again for another few months until my hair grows and I find a hairdresser who has ears and an interest in listening to his clients. Now I’m just waiting for his aggressive reply but my review is honest and accurate. I’m sure he will blame my small lovely dog for getting under his feet and causing him to cut my hair badly! My dog didn’t! Or my ‘thinning hair’ or my ‘ indecision’ or anything he can find to make me wrong but he really can’t. I did say ‘cut the ends to remove the dried ends’. I was not expecting to go from shoulder blade length hair to a short bob that sits just below my ears. And to think I tipped him. But then again that sums it all up. I felt intimidated from start to finish. Sorry Rob. I think you do need to have a chat with yourself and park your arrogance and superiority. You’re just not all that great! Maybe it was an off day but I doubt it. I think you just think you are better than you are. Just because you say you trained at Tony and guy or ‘peered in their windows’ when you were a kid does not make you a great hairdresser. I’ll await your fabricated and bluffing reply! And I’ll give it all back because at the end of the day I am the customer and you just did what you wanted to my hair without listening or advising or planning and you may well be a good hairdresser if you were not so arrogant and cocky. But I’d say it’s maybe a bit too late for you to learn now. And I suppose now you’ll tell your clients how I’m the dreadful demanding customer with the unruly ( well trained assistance) dog just to make you right and me wrong. But I was the lovely customer who asked for advice and said I did not want a short fringe or short hair and asked for a bit of shape around the sides but you did what you wanted. And Al made me feel really stupid for asking for a little shape around the block. I never asked for Anna wintour hair!
