Micklegate Fisheries

As a regular visitor to York from my hometown in Scotland I enjoy the local restaurants as well as all the other benefits of visiting this beautiful city. One of my favourites is in micklegate where I go for traditional fish and chips which are served in a large box and taste delicious. The staff are friendly and welcoming and if you find the restaurant too far away from your location they deliver as well. I highly recommend you try the food here.

Got a piece of fish and it was very good and fresh. Batter was light, and the fish was tasty. Service was friendly and welcoming. Very good place for a quick snack.

Google suggested there was a dine in option. It is a takeaway only, BUT.. The owner saw the funny side when I showed him the search results. He immediately suggested we make an eating area with the 3 waiting chairs and the bench next to the counter. We did exactly that! As we sat enjoying the delicious fish and chips, more people arrived (with cases) and asked where the restaurant was!!! He said - “ if you are happy to wait, I’ll get more chairs” 😂😂 Very accommodating and great fun!
